Hands-on learning in Cancún
Dr. Iqra Ahmed traveled to Cancún, Mexico, to train under Dr. Mohamed Attia in an intensive live implant surgery program. From October 29 through October 31, 2026, she completed Principles of Dental Implant Surgery: A Live Surgery Course.
The program provided hands-on experience and an opportunity to refine skills and learn techniques to bring back to her work at Englewood Dentistry. Continuing education is part of Dr. Ahmed’s commitment to learning, improving, and providing thoughtful care for her patients.

Why hands-on education matters to Dr. Ahmed
Dr. Ahmed’s reason for taking part was to gain experience, refine her skills, and learn techniques she could bring back to her practice. Learning alongside an instructor and clinical team creates an opportunity to ask questions and reflect on how care is planned and delivered.
For patients, this update offers a concrete view of that commitment. It documents time dedicated to professional learning beyond the day-to-day work of the office. Dr. Ahmed describes it simply: always learning, always improving, and continuing to invest in patient care.

What this means when you are considering implants
A training update is a starting point for a conversation about your own care. Your health, goals, and examination still determine whether an implant is appropriate. Ask Dr. Ahmed to explain the options available to you and why she recommends a particular approach.
As the FDA’s patient guide to dental implants explains, implant care involves both potential benefits and risks. An implant in the jaw supports a replacement tooth or another restoration, and healing may take several months or longer. Your proposed timeline should account for healing and the final restoration.
Daily cleaning and regular follow-up remain important after treatment. Ask how to care for the implant and surrounding teeth, which visits will be needed, and whom to contact about a problem.
Questions to bring to an implant consultation
You do not need to know the technical terms before your first visit. A short list of questions can help you leave with a clearer understanding of the recommendation.
- Which tooth-replacement options are suitable for me?
- What records or imaging do you recommend, and what will they help assess?
- Which stages are included in my plan, and who will provide each stage?
- What should I expect during healing, and will a temporary replacement be needed?
- What does the estimate include, and what could change it?
- What maintenance and follow-up will my restoration need?
Bring your questions about appearance, eating, appointment timing, and payment arrangements too. Our implant consultation guide explains how to prepare, and our implant cost guide outlines questions to ask about an estimate.
Always learning. Always improving.
“Gaining hands-on experience, refining my skills, and learning new techniques to bring back to my practice is what it’s all about,” says Dr. Ahmed.
